description Connaught Barracks Dover Overview
Connaught Barracks was a former British Army installation in Dover, Kent, named for Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. Built about half a mile south of Fort Burgoyne and completed in 1913, it served in the First World War as an assembly point for troops and supplies being sent across the English Channel to the Western Front, and later accommodated units including the Parachute Regiment. The barracks closed in 2006, and the former site has been allocated for redevelopment and housing.
