Consolation Lakes Cirque

The established trail begins near Moraine Lake in Banff National Park and leads through forest toward the lakes. The route enters a dramatic basin below peaks including Mount Babel and the Tower of Babel.

Rockfall and glacial processes deposited enormous blocks across the floor of the basin. Reaching the lakeshore may therefore require careful movement over uneven boulders rather than a smooth lakeside path.

They occupy a neighboring glacial basin reached from the Moraine Lake area. The hike provides a different perspective on the mountains surrounding the better-known Valley of the Ten Peaks.

Access depends on reaching Moraine Lake through an authorized shuttle, transit service, bicycle, or another permitted option. Parks Canada restricts ordinary private vehicles on Moraine Lake Road, so transport must be arranged before the hike.
