description Cuvelai-Etosha Basin Overview
The Cuvelai-Etosha Basin is an inland drainage system extending across southern Angola and northern Namibia. Seasonal water flows through shallow channels, locally called oshanas and omirambas, rather than through a permanent river network, creating temporary wetlands during the rainy season. The system drains toward Etosha Pan, a broad saline depression in northern Namibia that is usually dry but can become partially flooded and attract large numbers of waterbirds.
