Death Camas

description Death Camas Overview

Death camas is a common name for several toxic perennial plants in the genus Toxicoscordion, formerly included in Zigadenus. These bulb-forming plants are native to western North America and often grow in meadows, open woodland, and other habitats. Their narrow leaves and clusters of pale flowers can resemble edible plants, but ingestion may cause severe poisoning in people and livestock because of toxic steroidal alkaloids.
