Diamond Shoals

description Diamond Shoals Overview

Diamond Shoals is a group of shallow, shifting sandbars extending from Cape Hatteras into the Atlantic Ocean off North Carolina. The shoals lie near the meeting of major ocean currents and have changing depths and difficult navigation conditions. Because many vessels were lost in the waters around Cape Hatteras, Diamond Shoals is associated with the region's historical name, the Graveyard of the Atlantic, and with the study of coastal hazards and shipwrecks.
