DR 6 (Galactic Ghoul)

description DR 6 (Galactic Ghoul) Overview

DR 6, nicknamed the Galactic Ghoul, is an H II region in the constellation Cygnus. An infrared image from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope shows a skull-like cavity in the surrounding cloud, shaped as winds from the embedded young star cluster push away and compress the gas. The object is both an emission nebula and a site of star formation, showing how young stars alter their birth cloud.
