description Edward John Eyre Overview

Edward John Eyre was an English explorer and colonial official whose 1840 to 1841 expedition crossed southern Australia from Adelaide to King George Sound at Albany in Western Australia. Traveling with the Aboriginal guide Wylie and other companions, Eyre completed an overland route along the southern coast, reaching Albany on 7 July 1841. He also led earlier expeditions in South Australia and recorded observations of the region's arid interior and coastal landscape.
