Elburz Range forest steppe

description Elburz Range forest steppe Overview

The Elburz Range forest steppe is a montane ecoregion located along the Alborz mountain range in northern Iran, just south of the Caspian Sea. Characterized by a dramatic altitudinal gradient, the region transitions from steppe vegetation at lower elevations to subalpine forests consisting of oak, juniper, and pistachio trees. The ecoregion encompasses Mount Damavand, a dormant volcano that rises to 5,610 meters and represents the highest peak in the country. This diverse landscape acts as a vital ecological barrier, separating the humid Caspian forests to the north from the arid Iranian plateau to the south.
