Emperor Aurangzeb

description Emperor Aurangzeb Overview

Aurangzeb was the sixth Mughal emperor of India, ruling from 1658 until his death in 1707. During his reign, the Mughal Empire reached its greatest territorial extent, particularly through campaigns in the Deccan. He was a Sunni Muslim ruler who reimposed the jizya tax on non-Muslims and supported a more conservative interpretation of Islamic law than several of his predecessors. His long wars placed heavy demands on the imperial state.
