description Erect-crested Penguin Overview
The erect-crested penguin (Eudyptes sclateri) is a penguin species endemic to New Zealand's subantarctic islands. It breeds mainly on the Bounty Islands and Antipodes Islands, where it nests in colonies on rocky ground and coastal slopes. Adults have black-and-white plumage, an orange bill, and yellow crest feathers that project upward from the sides of the head. The species is classified as endangered and spends much of the non-breeding period at sea, where it feeds on marine prey.
