description Fall webworm moth Overview
The fall webworm moth, Hyphantria cunea, is a moth in the family Erebidae whose caterpillars feed communally inside loose silk webs. The larvae build the webs over the leaves and branch tips of many host trees and shrubs, enlarging them as they eat, and the nests are the species' main field sign. Native to North America, the moth has also become established in parts of Europe and Asia, where larval feeding can defoliate ornamental, fruit, and forest trees.
