description Fall Webworm Overview
The fall webworm, Hyphantria cunea, is a moth in the family Erebidae whose caterpillars feed on many deciduous trees and shrubs. The larvae live communally inside silken webs built around branch ends, expanding them as they consume foliage. Native to North America, it is most noticeable from late summer through early fall. Feeding can defoliate parts of a tree, but damage to healthy mature trees is usually mainly aesthetic.
