Fengyun-3A is a Chinese polar-orbiting meteorological satellite launched on May 27, 2008, from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. As the first spacecraft in China's second-generation polar-orbiting weather satellite series, it carried 11 instruments for atmospheric sounding, earth observation, and space environment monitoring. Operated by the China Meteorological Administration, Fengyun-3A supported numerical weather prediction, climate monitoring, and disaster management. It operated in a sun-synchronous orbit at approximately 870 km altitude.
