Fly Geyser (Fly Ranch)

Fly Geyser is a man-made geothermal feature located on private land in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada. It originated in 1964 when a poorly capped geothermal exploratory well began continuously spraying hot water, leading to the accumulation of dissolved minerals that formed the mound.

Because it is located on private land at Fly Ranch, access has historically been restricted. However, guided nature walks are periodically offered to the public by the Burning Man Project, which now owns the land.

The striking green and red colors of the geyser mound are caused by thermophilic algae that thrive in the hot, mineral-rich water. These microorganisms create vibrant streaks along the terraces and surrounding wetlands.
