Ghanta Ghar (Lucknow)

The Husainabad Clock Tower in Lucknow rises approximately 67 metres (about 220 feet), making it one of the tallest clock towers in India. It was completed in 1881 during the British colonial period. The structure stands near the Husainabad Imambara, a major landmark in the city.

The clock tower's design reflects Victorian-Gothic architectural influences and was built during the period of British colonial rule in the late 19th century. It was commissioned to mark the arrival of Sir George Couper, the first Lieutenant Governor of the North-Western Provinces. The tower's large clock mechanism was manufactured in Britain and imported to India.

The clock tower stands adjacent to the Husainabad Imambara, also known as the Chhota Imambara, a significant Shia Muslim monument built by Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah in the 1830s. The surrounding Husainabad area is known for its cluster of heritage buildings, including the Rumi Darwaza gateway and picture gallery. This area is often referred to as the 'old Lucknow' heritage zone.
