Gulper Shark

description Gulper Shark Overview

The gulper shark, Centrophorus granulosus, is a deep-water dogfish of the family Centrophoridae. It has a broad but patchy distribution in Atlantic and Indo-Pacific waters and inhabits continental-slope and outer-shelf environments. The species has a low reproductive rate, with late maturity and very small litters, which increases its sensitivity to fishing pressure. Its liver has been used as a source of squalene-rich oil, and it is taken in targeted and bycatch fisheries.
