Hagi Ware

description Hagi Ware Overview

Hagi ware is a Japanese ceramic tradition centered on Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture and developed in the early seventeenth century with techniques introduced by Korean potters. It is particularly associated with tea bowls made from relatively soft, porous clay and finished with subdued feldspathic glazes. Tea practitioners value the ware's restrained appearance and the way repeated use can gradually alter its color as liquids penetrate fine cracks and pores.
