Herbert River Ringtail Possum

Its scientific name is Pseudochirulus herbertensis. It occurs in northeastern Queensland, from the Mount Lee area west of Ingham toward the Lamb Range west of Cairns. [Animal Diversity Web](https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/Pseudochirulus_herbertensis/)

It lives mainly in dense rainforest, with some records from tall flooded-gum forest along rainforest edges. Field descriptions place much of its habitat at roughly 350 metres above sea level. [Animal Diversity Web](https://animaldiversity.org/accounts/Pseudochirulus_herbertensis/)

Yes. It is described as a solitary nocturnal animal that is almost entirely arboreal and rarely comes down to the ground. [James Cook University study](https://researchonline.jcu.edu.au/24106/2/02whole.pdf)

The Herbert River species is commonly described as dark brown to black, sometimes with a white belly, and is called Pseudochirulus herbertensis. The Daintree River Ringtail Possum, Pseudochirulus cinereus, was once treated as a lighter form of the Herbert River species but was recognized as distinct in 1989.
