description IJN Fusō Overview
Fusō was the lead ship of a class of two battleships built for the Imperial Japanese Navy and later extensively reconstructed with a distinctive tall pagoda-style superstructure. During the Battle of Surigao Strait on 25 October 1944, she was struck by torpedoes while advancing with Japan's Southern Force and subsequently sank. The action formed part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf and included the last battleship-against-battleship gunfire engagement.
