İshak Pasha Palace

The palace complex is situated near Doğubayazıt in eastern Turkey, close to the borders with Iran and Armenia, on a high plateau overlooking the surrounding Anatolian landscape. Its dramatic hillside setting makes it one of the most visually striking historical sites in eastern Turkey.

The complex was developed over an extended period during the Ottoman era and reportedly completed in the late 18th century, with some sources citing the 1780s. Construction spanned multiple decades and incorporated successive additions by different patrons.

The complex blends Ottoman, Seljuk, Persian, and Georgian architectural influences, visible in its arcades, minarets, decorative stone carving, and domed structures. The mix reflects the region's position at the crossroads of multiple cultural and political spheres.

The site is open to visitors and includes a mosque, a mausoleum, a harem section, a courthouse, kitchens, reception halls, and other rooms spread across multiple levels and courtyards. The intricate stone carvings on doorways and walls are among the most notable surviving decorative features.
