Mount Ishizuchi (Ishizuchisan) is the highest peak in western Japan at 1,982 meters (6,503 feet), located on the island of Shikoku in Ehime Prefecture. It is part of the Ishizuchi Quasi-National Park and is included in Japan's list of 100 famous mountains. The mountain has been a significant site of Shinto mountain worship for centuries, with the Ishizuchi Shrine located on its slopes and at its summit. Pilgrims climbing to the top can use traditional iron chains attached to the rock faces near the summit, particularly the famous set of three chains known as the "Kusari Dō."
