James Prochaska

description James Prochaska Overview

James O. Prochaska was an American clinical psychologist known for co-developing the Transtheoretical Model of behavior change with Carlo C. DiClemente. The model describes change as movement through stages commonly identified as precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance, rather than as a single decision.

It has been applied in research and interventions concerning smoking cessation, exercise, substance use, and other health-related behaviors, with attention to matching support to a person's readiness to change.
