Jerome M. Adams is an American anesthesiologist and public-health official who served as the 20th Surgeon General of the United States from September 2017 to January 2021. Before taking that office, he was Indiana's state health commissioner from 2014 to 2017 and had worked as a staff anesthesiologist and clinical anesthesia professor at Indiana University. As Surgeon General and a vice admiral in the U.S.
Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, he communicated federal guidance on issues including opioid misuse, vaccination, and COVID-19.
