Jim Yong Kim

He co-founded Partners In Health (PIH) alongside Paul Farmer and Ophelia Dahl to provide healthcare to poor communities in Haiti. He later served as the President of Dartmouth College and became the first Asian-American president of the World Bank Group, serving from 2012 to 2019.

In 2003, Jim Yong Kim was appointed as the Director of the World Health Organization's HIV/AIDS department. During his tenure, he launched the '3 by 5' initiative, an ambitious global plan to provide antiretroviral treatment to three million people living with HIV in low- and middle-income countries.

While working with Partners In Health in the 1990s, Kim helped develop a pioneering treatment model for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) in the slums of Carabayllo, Peru. This community-based approach proved that complex MDR-TB treatments could be successfully implemented in resource-poor settings, ultimately influencing global WHO policies.

Jim Yong Kim unexpectedly resigned from his role as President of the World Bank Group in January 2019, well before his second term was set to end in 2022. He stepped down to join a private equity firm focused on increasing infrastructure investments in developing nations.
