description Kabul Overview

The Kabul River is a major river of Afghanistan and northwestern Pakistan and a tributary of the Indus. It rises in the Hindu Kush region, flows through or near Kabul and Jalalabad, crosses into Pakistan, and joins the Indus near Attock. Important tributaries include the Panjshir and Kunar rivers, and the basin covers much of eastern Afghanistan as well as adjoining areas of Pakistan. The river is used for irrigation and has also been developed for hydropower.
