The Kama is a major river in European Russia and the largest tributary of the Volga by discharge. It rises west of the Ural Mountains, follows a long course through the Volga Federal District, and joins the Volga within the broad reservoir system near Tatarstan. Dams and reservoirs along the river support hydroelectric power, navigation, industry, and water management, while cities including Perm and Naberezhnye Chelny developed along its basin.
