Kanban EV was designed by acclaimed board game designer Vital Lacerda, known for other heavy eurogames like The Gallerist and Vinhos. The game was published by Stronghold Games and is a reimplementation of his earlier 2012 release, simply titled Kanban. It features updated electric vehicle theming and new, highly detailed artwork.

In Kanban EV, players take on the role of factory managers trying to impress the company president by efficiently running an electric vehicle production line. You must balance your limited time across various factory departments like design, assembly, and testing to earn shift points. The ultimate goal is to produce the highest quality cars and secure the best performance reviews.

As players successfully test and assemble cars in the factory, those cars are moved onto a physical race track on the board. Players can push their luck to drive these electric vehicles around the track, earning points for successful racing performances. However, drivers must manage battery depletion, as running out of power mid-race results in severe penalties.
