Mount Kita, commonly known as Kitadake, is a prominent peak located in the Akaishi Mountains of Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan. Rising to an elevation of 3,193 meters, it is the second-highest mountain in the country after Mount Fuji. The mountain is a highly popular destination for alpine hikers and is officially recognized as one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. Its rugged terrain is biologically diverse, famously serving as the exclusive natural habitat for the rare Kitadake-so plant.
