The Kura River is the longest watercourse in the South Caucasus, measuring approximately 1,515 kilometers. It originates in the highlands of northeastern Turkey and flows eastward through Georgia and Azerbaijan. The river eventually empties into the Caspian Sea south of Baku. It serves as a vital resource for regional agriculture, hydroelectric power generation, and municipal water supply, though it is heavily affected by industrial and agricultural runoff.
