Lacepede Bay

description Lacepede Bay Overview

Lacepede Bay is a shallow coastal inlet located in the southeastern region of South Australia. It was charted and named in 1802 by the British navigator Matthew Flinders, who chose the name to honor the French naturalist Bernard Germain de Lacépède. The bay opens southward into the Southern Ocean and fronts the town of Kingston SE. Its waters are sheltered by a narrow sand peninsula, making it a historically significant area for commercial fishing and maritime trade.
