Lake Khanka is a large, shallow freshwater lake situated on the border between Russia's Primorsky Krai and China's Heilongjiang Province in Northeast Asia. The lake covers approximately 4,190 sq km at normal water levels, with the larger share in Russia, and has an average depth of only about 4 m. Lake Khanka and its surrounding wetlands are protected on the Russian side as the Khanka Nature Reserve and on the Chinese side as the Xingkai Lake Nature Reserve, and the lake is an important stopover for migratory birds on the East Asian–Australasian Flyway.
