Leucojum

description Leucojum Overview

Leucojum is a small genus of bulbous spring-blooming plants in the Amaryllidaceae family, commonly known as snowflakes. Native to Europe and the Mediterranean, these plants are characterized by their nodding, bell-shaped white flowers, each petal tipped with green or yellow markings. They are frequently confused with snowdrops (Galanthus), but Leucojum species generally have multiple flowers per stem and longer, strap-like foliage. The summer snowflake (Leucojum aestivum) and spring snowflake (Leucojum vernum) are the most widely cultivated species, favored for woodland gardens.
