Longspine Thornyhead

description Longspine Thornyhead Overview

Longspine Thornyhead, Sebastolobus altivelis, is a deep-water rockfish of the eastern Pacific Ocean. It is associated with bathyal habitats and is generally found at depths of about 300 to 1,700 metres, deeper than the related shortspine thornyhead. The species has a robust, spiny appearance typical of thornyheads and is part of the deep-sea fish fauna studied in relation to commercial fisheries and marine ecology. Its range and depth distribution distinguish it from shallower rockfish.
