description Lytechinus callipeplus Overview
Lytechinus callipeplus is an extant species of regular sea urchin in the family Toxopneustidae. Hubert Lyman Clark described it in 1912, and taxonomic databases place it in the genus Lytechinus. It is recorded from the tropical western Atlantic, including the West Indies, where it occurs in deeper water than many familiar shallow-water sea urchins; published records place it at roughly 125 to 300 metres in depth. It is not an extinct Pliocene species.
