macOS High Sierra was a foundational release that introduced the Apple File System (APFS) and HEVC video encoding. These were massive technical improvements that paved the way for modern macOS performance. However, as an OS from 2017, it is completely obsolete for daily use. It lacks modern security protections and cannot run most contemporary software.
It is strictly for archival purposes or for running very specific, ancient hardware configurations that cannot be updated further.
