How was the Meiji Guyot formed?

Like the rest of the Hawaiian chain, it was formed by volcanic eruptions caused by a stationary mantle plume, or hotspot, beneath the Pacific tectonic plate. As the plate moved northwest, the volcano went extinct and eventually eroded below sea level.

Where is the Meiji Guyot located?

The Meiji Guyot is located at the very northernmost end of the Emperor seamount chain, near the Kuril-Kamchatka Trench. It is currently subducting into the trench, meaning it will eventually be completely destroyed by the Earth's mantle.
