description Yuryaku Guyot Overview
Yuryaku Guyot is a flat-topped submarine volcano in the Emperor Seamount chain of the North Pacific Ocean. Like other guyots, it began as a volcanic island or seamount and acquired a relatively level summit through erosion before subsiding below sea level. Geological studies place its formation in the Eocene, approximately 43 million years ago, and describe lavas with an unusually alkaline composition.
