Melissa blue is the common name for Plebejus melissa, a butterfly in the family Lycaenidae found across western North America. Its range extends from Canada through the western United States to Mexico, with populations also occurring in plains and prairie habitats farther east. The larvae feed on plants in the pea family, including species of lupine, Lotus, Medicago, Astragalus, and related legumes, making host-plant distribution important to the species' life cycle.
