description Mer Bleue Overview

Mer Bleue is a prominent 3,500-hectare peat bog and conservation area located in the eastern region of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Managed by the National Capital Commission, it features a unique boreal wetland ecosystem that is more typical of northern climates than the surrounding St. Lawrence Lowlands. The area is characterized by raised sphagnum bogs, open water pools, and dense forests of black spruce and tamarack.

Designated as a Ramsar wetland of international importance in 1995, it serves as a crucial habitat for migratory birds and a vital area for ecological research.
