Mike's Hot Honey was created by Mike Kurtz, who was inspired by chili-infused honey he tasted on pizza at a Brazilian restaurant while visiting Brazil. He began producing and selling the product in Brooklyn, New York, around 2010, initially targeting pizzerias before expanding into retail and building a cult following among chefs and home cooks.

Mike's Hot Honey is most famously paired with pizza—especially pepperoni—and fried chicken, where the sweet-heat combination complements savory, salty flavors.
