description Modlin Fortress Overview
Modlin Fortress is a large defensive complex in Poland at the confluence of the Narew, Vistula, and Wkra rivers, north of Warsaw. Initial construction was ordered by Napoleon in 1806, and the Russian Empire later expanded the site into a polygonal fortress with extensive barracks, defensive works, and detached forts. Its strategic position allowed it to control river routes and approaches to Warsaw. The complex also played a role in military operations during the First and Second World Wars.
