Nest Thermostat (Non-Learning)

The more affordable, non-learning Nest Thermostat does not support the Nest Temperature Sensors that are compatible with the Nest Learning Thermostat. This streamlined device relies solely on the ambient temperature measured at its built-in wall location. If you need to prioritize the temperature of a specific distant room, you would need to upgrade to the more expensive Learning model.

The standard Nest Thermostat relies heavily on the Google Home app for setup, scheduling, and remote control via your smartphone. You can easily adjust the temperature, create daily routines, and view energy history directly from the app. It maintains this core Google Home compatibility to ensure a beautiful design aesthetic paired with accessible modern smart home features.

The Nest Thermostat is designed to work without a common wire, or C-wire, in the vast majority of HVAC systems by utilizing its internal battery. It trickle-charges directly from the heating and cooling wires whenever the system runs. However, if your HVAC system does not provide enough consistent power, you may eventually need to install a Google Nest Power Connector to prevent battery drain.

Despite lacking the advanced learning schedule algorithms of its premium sibling, the standard Nest Thermostat still features built-in presence detection. It uses motion sensors to recognize when you walk away, automatically entering an energy-saving Eco Temperatures mode. It maintains a beautiful design and excellent simplicity without requiring you to manually program every temperature drop.
