NGC 6153

description NGC 6153 Overview

NGC 6153 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius. It consists of an expanding shell of gas produced during the late evolution of a star that expelled its outer layers before becoming a compact stellar remnant. Spectroscopic studies of its gas have drawn attention to unusually high reported abundances of heavy elements, including neon and argon, and to the broader abundance discrepancy found in some planetary nebulae. The object is studied in stellar evolution and nebular astrophysics.
