description Obsidian.md Overview
Built around Markdown files, Obsidian offers a way to turn separate notes into an interconnected knowledge base. Links between notes create a personal wiki, while backlinks reveal where a topic appears elsewhere in the collection. This approach supports knowledge discovery and project organization without requiring every idea to fit into a fixed folder structure. Notes are stored locally as readable text files.
For developers, it can hold technical explanations alongside project documentation and the reasoning behind design decisions. Its plugin ecosystem extends the application with additional ways to organize and work with that material. Obsidian also suits researchers and other people who revisit information over time. The defining appeal is the combination of portable files and linked thinking, making relationships between notes part of the working system rather than an afterthought.
