Okami

Okami was developed by Clover Studio and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2 in 2006. The game was directed by Hideki Kamiya, who is well known for his work on other Capcom action franchises like Devil May Cry. Despite its critical acclaim, Clover Studio was unfortunately disbanded by Capcom shortly after the game's release.

The game is highly praised for its 'Celestial Brush' mechanics, which allow players to pause time and draw symbols directly onto the screen using a sumi-e ink style. These brush strokes are used to solve environmental puzzles, slash enemies, and alter the world, such as drawing a circle to make the sun rise. It seamlessly integrates art directly into the player's toolkit.

Okami is famous for its stunning visuals that mimic traditional Japanese sumi-e ink wash painting and woodblock art. The entire 3D environment is rendered to look like a living, moving piece of parchment paper. This distinct artistic direction was heavily inspired by classic action games like The Legend of Zelda.

Originally released on the PlayStation 2 in 2006, Okami has been ported to numerous modern platforms. Players can currently enjoy enhanced versions of the game on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. These modern ports feature updated high-definition graphics to better showcase the intricate sumi-e artwork.
