description Park Geun-hye Overview
Park Geun-hye served as President of South Korea from 2013 to 2017 and was the first woman to hold the office; she is the daughter of former president Park Chung-hee. A conservative, she was impeached by the National Assembly in December 2016 over an influence-peddling scandal involving her confidante Choi Soon-sil, and the Constitutional Court removed her from office in March 2017. She was subsequently convicted of corruption-related charges and received a presidential pardon in December 2021.
