Pelican Bar

The Pelican Bar is located on a shallow offshore sandbank in the waters off Parottee in Saint Elizabeth Parish, so it can only be reached by boat. Visitors usually hire a local fisherman to take them on the short ride out to the sandbar.

The rustic wooden bar was originally created by a local Jamaican fisherman named Floyd Forbes. He built the small timber platform and shelter on the sandbank as a place to rest and have a drink while out fishing.

Visitors typically spend their time drinking cold Red Stripe beer, eating fresh fried fish, and swimming in the shallow, clear Caribbean waters. It is also a popular spot to leave a memento, as the wooden walls are often covered in writings and carvings from tourists.

The best time to visit is during calm, sunny weather when the sea is completely flat, as the structure is entirely exposed to the open ocean. Trips are often canceled if the winds pick up, making the boat ride too rough.
