Schistocerca interrita, commonly called the Peruvian locust, is a species of short-horned grasshopper in the family Acrididae. Samuel Hubbard Scudder described it in 1899, and the species is native to Peru. It was historically regarded as a non-swarming grasshopper, but population upsurges have been recorded in northern Peru during periods associated with El Niño rainfall. These outbreaks can affect agricultural areas and require monitoring.
