description Philips CD-i Overview

The Philips CD-i, short for Compact Disc-Interactive, was a multimedia platform and player introduced by Philips for software distributed on interactive compact discs. Consumer systems appeared in the early 1990s and supported games, educational programs, encyclopedic works, and other audio-visual applications, placing it between a CD player and a home computer or console. Nintendo licensed several characters and titles for CD-i releases, but the platform did not become a lasting competitor in the video-game market.
