Pocket Mutation Chess

description Pocket Mutation Chess Overview

Pocket Mutation Chess is a chess variant created by Mike Nelson. Captured pieces are not simply removed from play: they are held in a pocket and can later be returned to the board. When reintroduced, those pieces mutate into upgraded or specialized fairy-chess pieces, so the variant combines capture, reserve-piece drops, and changing piece identities. It is designed for players interested in chess variants with asymmetrical or nonstandard material.
